Financial Services Specialist Academy for Educational Development (AED) Job Description (WASHINGTON DC - BASED) The Academy for Educational Development (AED), an international development organization, is recruiting for future positions to support programming in microfinance and activities related to financing micro, small and medium enterprises in the context of value chain development.
The Washington, DC-based financial services specialist will manage a
portfolio of microfinance and other financial services projects,
providing technical and administrative support to USAID-funded projects
in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. S/he will supervise and liaise
regularly with Chief of Parties in the field, organize required STTA in
support of the COP’s requests and ensure the program runs smoothly from
both a technical and managerial point of view. S/he will also ensure
that all contractual and financial requirements are adhered to and that
deliverables and ad hoc reports are submitted in a timely manner. S/he
will also facilitate consultations with AED’s contractual and financial
management services as needed.
Requirements:
- Minimum 8-10 years experience in management positions for development programs focusing on microfinance or SME finance in developing countries is required;
- Proven technical knowledge and experience in the provision of financial services, including microfinance institution building, sector development strategies, value chain finance and SME lending;
- Good financial and project management skills with at least four years of experience providing technical oversight of field-based projects;
- Demonstrated skills in leadership and supervision, with an ability to develop relationships and a common vision among stakeholders;
- Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to analyze data; conceptualize, perform, and develop financial systems;
- Practical knowledge in financial services monitoring and evaluation methodologies required;
- Thorough familiarity with USAID regulations and policies required;
- Degree in Business Administration, Economic or International Development, Development Management, Agricultural or Development Economics, Project Management, or a related field;
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills required,
- Proficiency in French, Arabic or other languages preferred
- Familiarity with managing projects in post-conflict and fragile state contexts preferred.
