Internship Description: The Terrorism and Counterterrorism Program of Human Rights Watch is seeking a qualified law school student (second or third-year preferred) or recent law school graduate to intern as a law clerk and assist the senior counterterrorism counsel in HRW’s Washington, DC office.
The intern will engage directly with the senior
counterterrorism counsel on a variety of issues. Primarily, the intern
will review and assist with research on factual and legal issues
concerning HRW’s counterterrorism work in the United Sates in the
post-9/11 world.
This internship is unpaid. Students are often able to
arrange academic credit, as HRW internships offer direct exposure to
the workings of an international human rights organization, close
supervision by HRW staff, interaction with other US and international
organizations and foreign and domestic government officials, and
opportunities to attend lectures, trainings, and special events
relating to human rights. Students should check with their individual
academic institutions for requirements.
Qualifications:
Applicants should be
well-organized, self-motivated and reliable, and have demonstrated
research experience. Second or third-year full-time or part-time law
school students and recent law school graduates are encouraged to
apply. Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications)
are required. Foreign language skills, especially Arabic, are
desirable.
