The "IB Jugendgästehaus Stuttgart" is a institution of the IB (International Federation for Social Work), a independant welfare organisation in the field of youth services and vocational training. The Jugendgästehaus hosts young people during their short or long term stay in Stuttgart. The guests are students, pupils, apprentices, tourists, study visit groups or individual backpackers. Furthermore The Jugendgästehaus plans and organises youth meetings, advisory seminars and conferences

The IB Youth guesthouse offers several EVS-projects which belong to different remits.
Workin g with the guestinformation /reception desk (activity 1, "city information for young people") the European volunteer shall collect information in the fields of history and current events of/ in the city, all about touristical attractions, sightseeing, infrastructure and vicinity. After having collected all deteails about what to do, what to see, where to find and where to go in Stuttgart, this information shall be transferred to the customer/guest of the youth-guesthouse by offering self-contained projects or by working with the reception desk. During this period the volunteer is also establishing the contact with the partner institutions of the youth-guesthouse and keeps in contact with them. The volunteer will participate in the work of the youth-guesthouse. He/She will learn to work as well as with the reception, the handling of guests and guestgroups and the connection of the youth-guesthouse to the infrastructure of Stuttgart.

Another EVS-project belongs also In the field of guest/tourist information (activity 2, " activity guide Stuttgart").
It deals with leisure time activities in Stuttgart and its suburbs. This project is suitable for deprived /disadvantaged young people, because the subject itself is more defined and needs the cooperation with the person working in the field of guest information.
The Volunteer will start via Internet and personal visits to examine all leisure time offers in Stuttgart and vicinity. Then he/she will collect all infos in a assembly which will be used at the reception. Further more he/she will create a tablet where all current leisuretime events are weekly/monthly published. In contrast to the EVS project tourist information this project deals exclusively with leisure time acitvities and according to the seasonal character of the subject this project duration is 6 month maximum.

The EVS-project in the field of youth dwelling deals with the needs, likings and dislikings of young people concerning their ambiente (activity 3, " juvenile housing"). Lately the IB youth hostel interrogates its guests with a questionnaire how they feel about the furnishing and the decor
of the rooms and what they would like to change/ to improve. The volunteer working in this field will evaluate these questionaires together with the manager of housekeeping and her subsitude and search for implementation possibilities.He/she will visit the other youth guest houses, hostels and youth accomodations in and around Stuttgart and in the following will attend fairs and exibitions that deal with youth dwelling and accomodation. In the end she/he shall know about certain concepts and - in the best case - help design some room in the youth guest hous.

In the field of domestic economy the IB youth guest house offers a most open EVS project (activity 4, "aspects of house keeping"). Depending on the personal capacity of the volunteer the project deals with canteen kitchen, groceries and provisions, storage and stockkeeping, hygienic regulations, cleaning and purgation. Agreed with the volunteer some aspects can be enhanced and others neglected.
This EVS-project is definitely meant for deprived/ disadvantaged young people and is to serve as a proving ground, a field to get some orientation and to learn something about the various aspects of house keeping.
In the end of this project the volunteer shall have learned skills that serve him/her in his/her daily life.

Each volunteer has the opportunity to search her/ his own emphasis within the project. If the interest goes to children in the city, or music scenario, churches and religious communities, sports and sportclubs - every possible focial point can be integrated in the project as long as it serves the information at the youth-guesthouse.The volunteer will be offered a language trainig in a school and the specific vocabulary will be transferred in training units with the tutor. All staff members will be willing to help the volunteer to accomplish her/his duties and plans. There is a big variety of leisure time activities in the house which are all open for the volunteer and can be changed/varied according to the plans/prospects of the volunteer.and there are always young people / other volunteers arround to spend the spare time with and help in the project.
