In 2004 the first Peace Caravan themed, ?we are the present and the future,? successfully reached about 100,000 people in 12days traveling from Isiolo to Machakos a distance of 500km, covering Rift Valley, Eastern and Central Provinces.
The theme for the Peace Camel Caravan 2007 is ?Youth leading change.? Its mission is creating awareness on leadership and peace in Kenya, targets 5 million people directly and indirectly in all eight provinces. It will start in April 2007 in Nairobi and with support vehicles will cover 1,500km in 15 days.
The use of camel, a calm obedient and strong animal, which portrays a sign of peace in our mind as individuals and as a community, signifying peace as a slow and deliberate process. Majority of Kenyans have not come across the animal, which makes it fun for both the young and the old people, thus acting as a pull factor for effective mobilization. For the participants, the caravan will be a life changing experience of self-discovery, enhancing their
self-reliance and philanthropy. The caravan is a platform for interaction and the exchange of practical ideas and a means to a lasting peace in our country.
