International Photography Competition - The social situation of women

KARAT Coalition together with its partners has the pleasure to announce a call for the submission of photographs addressing
THE
SOCIO-ECONOMIC SITUATION OF WOMEN FROM: ALBANIA, AZERBAIJAN, ARMENIA,
BELARUS, BOSNIA AND HERCEGOVINA, GEORGIA, KAZAKHSTAN, KYRGYZSTAN,
MACEDONIA, MOLDOVA, MONTENEGRO, SERBIA, UKRAINE, AND UZBEKISTAN.
Deadline for applications is October 15, 2008.
The
photographs must be taken in the aforementioned countries. The
participants of the competition must be women, over 18 years of age.
Both amateur and professional photographers can apply.
Each
photo must be a commentary on the economic situation of women in those
countries in the context of development. They can address any of the
issues listed below, but do not have to be limited to them:
•Existing stereotypes about the economic role of women versus reality
•Women in non-traditional occupations or professions
•Reconciling paid employment and family responsibilities
•The diversity of women’s economic activity
•Obstacles to women’s economic activity
•Development problems faced by women
•Women’s expectations, ambitions, goals related to their professional life
•The economic position of women in the context of the EU Neighbourhood Policy
•The
link between the economic situation of women in Albania, Azerbaijan,
Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine, and
Uzbekistan and EU
•Feminism and the economic situation of women
•Social expectations of women versus reality
•Women and poverty – breaking the cycle
•The interdependence, correlation, and challenges in relations between the EU and the aforementioned developing countries.
The best 50 photographs will be included in a photo exhibition held in Belgium, Germany, Poland, and Slovakia.
•The
authors of the 3 best works will be chosen by an international jury.
The results of the competition will be published until January 2009.
The
authors of 3 best works will receive a trophy and will be invited to
the exhibitions in Berlin in 2009 and Brussels in 2010. (For the
authors of the 3 best works, all costs associated with attending the
exhibition, such as travel, accommodation, meals, visa costs, will be
covered).
Participation in this prestigious exhibition
will guarantee the laureates international recognition and exposure via
the exhibitions as well as printed and electronic publication during
the project as well as after its conclusion.
Photographs
already published will be accepted under a condition that copyright of
these photographs can be passed to KARAT Coalition.
The
authors of up to 50 works selected for the exhibition will be requested
to sign appropriate documents based on Polish copyright law, on the
basis of which the copyright to their works will be passed to KARAT
Coalition. Only works by authors who will sign the document will be
included in the exhibition.
The photographs which will form the exhibition will be selected by project partners.

The competition is a part of a large
regional, development education project co-funded by the European
Commission. The project is implemented by KARAT Coalition. In Georgia
the project is being implemented in partnership with
GenderMediaCaucasus Journalists' Association.
The participants have to complete and submit the below form with each of photographs, or series of photographs.
